Riots in London 2003. There is, traditionally, a Trades Unions march on May Day in London, but the march had also become a focus for anti-capitalist protest, and, in this year, anti-war protesters. For much of the day, a carnival atmosphere prevailed and both the demonstrators and the police were relaxed and good natured. Towards evening, however, police tactics got more aggressive as they broke up the demonstrations.
